Where Creativity Meets Skating Excellence

Theatre On Skates Academy is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting figure skating for individuals of all ages and all skating levels.  The principal purpose of the academy is to foster and encourage growth and development in the performing arts for each member to achieve their highest potential in a safe and healthy environment whether it be on ice or on stage.  We do not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, color, creed, religion, gender, age, disability or sexual orientation.

The Academy began with a simple idea: children can learn more, feel braver, and have far more fun when skating does not stand alone. Many of us grew up loving both the stage and the rink, and we wanted to bring those areas together in a way that feels natural for everyone. Synthetic ice made it possible to build that vision in one space, all year long.

Our multi-disciplinary approach means a typical session includes much more than laps around the rink.  A class might open with vocal warm-ups and acting games that teach students to project their voices, use facial expression, and listen to scene partners. Then we move onto the synthetic ice to practice balance, glides, stops, and patterns. Music comes on, and those skating skills fold into choreography that matches a song or story we are building together.  Each part supports the others.

Skating builds physical strength and coordination, which helps children stand tall and grounded on stage.   Acting and storytelling give context to every movement, so a simple glide can show shyness, excitement, or curiosity. Singing and rhythm work train timing, which makes it easier to skate in patterns with others and remember sequences.

We serve ages five to fifteen with programs that adjust to different stages of growth. Younger children play more games, act out simple tales, and focus on basic skating and social skills. Older students work on technique, character, and more complex choreography. No prior experience is needed; we love welcoming absolute beginners and watching them discover what they can do.

Because our synthetic ice stays in place all year, our academy does not pause for seasons. Families can choose ongoing classes, shorter seasonal sessions, school-break camps, workshops, or private coaching to fit their schedules. Parents can watch from designated areas, siblings cheer each other on, and community events bring everyone together.

As one parent told us after a showcase, “I signed my child up to learn to skate. I didn’t expect to see them standing center stage, singing and smiling like that.”

Performance opportunities are some of the brightest moments of our year. Students work toward showcases where they skate, act, and sing for family and friends. For families who are curious but not ready to commit, we offer trial classes and introductory experiences so children can step onto the synthetic ice—and into the story—with no pressure.
